Storm Shelter

Storm Warnings and Shelter Basic Rules

Storm Warning Siren

We try to test the siren on Friday at noon. Remember if the tone goes up and down for less than a minute, it is a test.  In the event of a real warning, it will be one solid tone for at least 3 minutes.

  • The shelter will be locked to deter vandalism and liability of someone getting shut inside and not be able to get out. Several keys have been issued to citizens so that someone will be available to open the shelter in the event of severe weather.
  • The Storm Shelter is open only to the public when a Tornado Watch, Tornado Warning, or a Severe Weather Event with winds in excess of 75 mph is expected for our area, and/or the tornado sirens have been sounded.
  • The Storm Shelter will remain open only until the watch and/or warning is lifted. When the watch and/or warning expires, the Storm Shelter must be evacuated.
  • Weapons are prohibited in the Storm Shelter.
  • Smoking or the use of tobacco in any form is prohibited in Storm Shelters, including ecigs, vapor, etc.
  • Alcohol and drugs (other than those prescribed by a doctor) are prohibited in or near Storm Shelter.
  • Pets are not allowed in the Storm Shelter.
  • Radios or music devices may be used only with individual earphones.
  • Storm Shelter doors must remain closed at all times once you’ve entered.
